SHIFT Speaker Series 2011
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA Kathy Martinez, assistant
secretary of labor for the U.S. Department of
Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy,
spoke Oct. 31 at a Rockwell Collins–sponsored
Disabilities Awareness Heritage Month luncheon
at the Kirkland Community College. During her
presentation, “Profit by Investing in Workers
with Disabilities,” Martinez shared her experience as a Latina who has been blind since birth.
Martinez, who is also a lesbian, was a speaker at
DiversityInc’s November 2010 event and was featured in DiversityInc magazine’s May 2010 “Women
We Love” issue (which can be read online at www.
