Too many young people from our inner cities
give up on learning because they can’t see
college in their future. For increasing numbers,
this leads to a life without hope.
An ambitious program at Rutgers University holds out new hope of
reversing this alarming trend. First, it offers the possibility of a tuition-free college education; perhaps more important, it offers a concrete
path—paved with academic, personal, social, and financial support—for
promising eighth graders to pursue through their high school and
college years.
