Women-owned firms are poised to drive the economy through job creation.
How can supplier-diversity certification create even
more opportunity for their business growth? BY LINDA DENNY
Over the next decade, women business owners will accelerate their rapid pace of growth and emerge as dominant drivers of the economy. In 2008, there were 10. 1 million firms
owned by women, employing more than 13 million
people, according to the Center for Women’s Business
Research. That’s an estimated 16 percent of total U.S. jobs.
But by 2018, The Guardian Life Small Business Research
Institute says women-owned businesses will generate up
to 5. 5 million new jobs in the United States. That’s more
than half of the 9. 72 million new small-business jobs and
about one-third of the 15. 3 million total new jobs
anticipated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
