Month
Each year, we pause in February to honor those in the
Black community who have had an impact on our
nation’s history. In our feature this year, we highlight
the plight of slaves who had to buy their freedom in a guest
story written by Dr. Julianne Malveaux, president of Bennett
College for Women. Next, Dr. Stephanie Bush-Baskette,
Rutgers University-Newark campus professor and director
of the Joseph C. Cornwall Center for Metropolitan Studies,
says in an exclusive interview with DiversityInc that President
Barack Obama’s victory doesn’t mean an end for Black
History Month or the civil-rights movement. And finally, one
of DiversityInc’s journalists, Daryl C. Hannah, takes a look
at what he believes to be the true civil-rights struggle for
Generation Y—LGBT rights.
