There’s an old adage: You’re either
part of the problem or part of
the solution. When it comes to
corporate responsibility (CR),
companies are becoming a big part of
the solution, investing in everything
from fighting hunger to finding new
eco-friendly ways to operate their businesses. Although the increased interest
in environmental sustainability has been
partly spurred by regulation and high
fuel prices, industry leaders are using
CR to find new growth opportunities.
In 2007, corporations and corporate
foundations contributed an estimated
$15.7 billion to charitable organizations, reports Giving USA. That’s up
more than $2 billion, or more than 15
percent, from 2005. Without a doubt,
CEOs are broadening their perspective
from a narrow focus on profitability
alone to consider the implications of
