Philadelphia CEO Diversity Summit, which
was themed “Diversity
Inspires Excellence.”

The event, held at the
Barnes Foundation, brought together CEOs from the
greater Philadelphia area to share best practices around
corporate and regional diversity strategies. Members of
the panel included Joseph A. Frick, president and CEO,
Independence Blue Cross; Ann Weaver Hart, president,
Temple University; and Michael K. Pearson, president,
Union Packaging. Deloitte is No. 16 on The 2008
DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity® list.
ALICE S. MARRIOTT SCHOLARSHIP
Washington, D.C.| Jimmie Paschal, senior vice
president of external affairs and global diversity
officer at Marriott International, announced
the funding of the Alice S. Marriott scholarship
program at a luncheon during Alpha Kappa Alpha’s
Centennial Celebration. Marriott International has
partnered with the sorority to offer $25,000 per
year from 2008 to 2011.
The scholarship will
be offered to students
from traditionally
underrepresented groups
who are interested in
careers in hospitality.

created to honor the
memory of Marriott’s
cofounder and mother
of Chairman and CEO
Bill Marriott. Marriott
is No. 11 in The 2008
DiversityInc Top 50
Companies for Diversity.

NEW YORK WOMEN’S FORUM
New York, N.Y.|The New York Women’s Forum awarded grants to 10 women older than 35 to attend six New
York City colleges, enabling them to return to school
after overcoming adverse personal circumstances. The
women plan to study such subjects as advocating for
veterans and domestic-abuse victims; researching autism; and protecting the environment in Antarctica. The
awards were part of the New York Women’s Forum’s
Second Colloquium, which also included “Visions for
the Future: What Will it Mean to Be Human?” This
discussion focused on how robotics, technology and
genealogy are converging to redefine our society and
ethics, led by female leaders in science, business and
education including Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, founder and
director, Personal Robotics Group at MIT, and Ellen
Schall, dean, NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of
Public Service.
NEW YORK LIFE INSURANCE CO.
New York, N.Y.|New York Life Insurance Co. held a
reception for the 44 participants of the prestigious
Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. Intern
Program. The interns were encouraged to speak with
young Black executives from New York Life about
their careers and personal achievements during
the reception. The Congressional Black Caucus
Foundation program was a summer program that
offered exceptional and talented Black undergraduate
scholars the opportunity to work on Capitol Hill with
members of the Congressional Black Caucus. The New
York Life Foundation is the major vehicle through
which New York Life channels contributions to
national and local nonprofits.
