M. HERMAN as a director.
Previously, Herman
served as U.S. Secretary of
Labor. As part of her new
role, she was appointed
to the public issues and
diversity-review committee of the Coca-Cola
board. Herman served
as chair of Coca-Cola’s
Human Resources Task
Force from 2001 to 2006,
formed after the largest
racial-discrimination suit
in U.S. history. The task
force helped the company
transform into a national
diversity leader.
Sodexho (No. 13 in the
Top 50) appointed JAMES
TAYLOR president of the
company’s senior-services
division. Taylor will drive
growth for Sodexho’s
retirement and skilled
nursing segments. The
division has more than
450 clients nationwide
with 4,500 employees.
Taylor moves into the
role after six years with
Sodexho and 24 years
of foodservice-industry
experience. Most
recently, Taylor served as
Sodexho’s corporate vice
president in the office of
the president, reporting
to the CEO. Prior, he
served as vice president
of operations and as
senior vice president
for national accounts
in Sodexho’s corporate-services division. Taylor
holds a bachelor’s degree
from Arkansas Tech
University and a master’s
degree from Southern
Methodist University.
The NAACP Legal Defense
Fund has appointed JOHN
PAYTON director-counsel
and president of the fund.
Payton is an attorney
known for his successful
record in some of the
most important and
visible civil-rights cases in
the United States. As lead
counsel for the University
of Michigan, Payton
argued the affirmative-
action admissions case
successfully before
the trial court, appeals
court and ultimately
the Supreme Court. He
succeeded Ted Shaw,
who was previously
in this position. The
NAACP Legal Defense
and Educational Fund
is the nation’s oldest
civil-rights-law advocacy
organization.
The American Cancer
Society named DR. ELMER
HUERTA as president,
the first Latino in that
position. Huerta is the
founder and director of
the Cancer Preventorium
at the Washington Cancer
Institute in Washington,
D.C. He was appointed a
member of the National
Cancer Advisory Board
in 1998.
The Gay & Lesbian
Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) named
YVETTE BURTON the
co-chair of its national
board of directors. Burton
is a global business-devel-opment executive with
IBM. She has served on
GLAAD’s board since January 2005 and has been
involved with numerous
LGBT social-service and
advocacy organizations.
Burton holds a doctorate
in human and organizational systems from
the Fielding Institute
and a master’s degree in
criminal procedural law
from John Jay College of
Criminal Justice.
MARK BERTOLINI, president of Aetna, received
the Out & Healthy Leadership Award presented
by the National Gay &
Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the Human
Rights Campaign. Bertolini’s responsibilities at
Aetna include overseeing
all businesses and service
operations across healthcare products. Bertolini
has encouraged Aetna’s
support for LGBT-related
organizations and events,
as well as the development of policy positions,
products and programs
for the LGBT community.

DARRELL EVERETTE
was named director of
diversity on the board of
directors of the Institute
for Supply Management
in Kansas City, Mo.
Everette is the senior
strategic buyer at
Hallmark Cards.
