pany has both an internal diversity
council, chaired by the CEO, and
an external council, chaired by
NAACP Chairman Julian Bond.

unbiased, meaning it is level across
race/ethnicity and
gender. Ford has extremely strong
employee-resource groups (they
meet regularly with the CEO;
only 70 percent of Top 50 compa-
nies do this). One of its resource
groups is for employees with dis-
abilities, which only 55 percent of
the Top 50 have.
FROM JOE LAYMON, GROUP VICE
PRESIDENT, CORPORATE HUMAN
RESOURCES AND LABOR AFFAIRS:
“Diversity is fundamental to Ford’s
success, and our record of tolerance and inclusion speaks for itself.
At Ford, we are committed to
building high-performing, collaborative teams critical to effectively
doing business. This requires that
we truly respect, listen to, help and
appreciate each other, working
together as a unified team. We
have a simple way of putting this:
One team … one plan … one
Ford Motor Company.”
RECENT DIVERSITY SUCCESS: In
2006, Ford launched a program
called Leadership in DRIVE to
help address issues around recruitment, retention and advancement
of women.
