The American Association for Affirmative Action
(AAAA) held its 33rd annual conference, Diversity Versus
Affirmative Action: Where Do They Meet?, April 25–28 at
the Hyatt Regency Hotel. More than 600 attendees convened for the event, which addressed issues of discrimination in state and local government and competition
between Fortune 500 companies to compete as top diversity corporations. Among the conference speakers were
DiversityInc Partner and Cofounder Luke Visconti, Rep.
Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, and Henry Cisneros, former
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

The Essex and Hudson County
Committee for the Princeton Prize in Race
Relations gave its first award to Robert
Edmiston at a ceremony at the New Jersey
Performing Arts Center on April 30. Run
by alumni of Princeton University, the
awards program honors high-school students who have done significant work to
improve race relations within their community. Edmiston was heralded for
mounting a Latino film series.

The Coca-Cola Co., No. 4 on The 2007 DiversityInc Top 50
Companies for Diversity® list, received the Jackie B. Trujillo
SOAR award at the Women’s Foodservice Forum (WFF) Annual
Leadership Luncheon on May 21 at the Hyatt Regency
McCormick. The award recognizes a foodservice corporation that
champions gender balance and diversity. Sponsored by US
Foodservice, the SOAR Award is the highest honor an organza-tion can receive from the WFF. The award is named after
Trujillo, a founding member of the WFF who rose from a carhop
to chairman of the board of the largest KFC franchise in history.

The National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists
and Technical Professionals (NOGLSTP) was a participant in
the third annual Global Marathon For, By and About
Women in Engineering on March 22. The presentation,
Mentoring for GLBT Scientists, Engineers and Technology
Students and Professionals: Bridging the Gap from Academe
to Industry, was one in a series of telephone presentations,
Internet simulcasts, and web-casts, which provide information on engineering careers
to high-school and college
students as well as professional women engineers worldwide. Verizon Business, affiliated with Verizon
Communications (No. 6 on
the 2007 Top 50), was one
